Understanding Bio-enzymatic Cleaners

There is a new "kid in town" and he's claiming to be the best solution for all your cleaning needs. He claims that he is a Bio-enzymatic cleaner. First thing you need to know is that no one product can do all of your cleaning jobs.

There are three major jobs - sanitizing, de-scaling, and cleaning. Sanitizing is used to kill germs - products are usually high acid or caustic products like bleach, quaternary ammonia, or other chemically based killing products. De-scaling products typically remove salts like rust, calcium & lime deposits that can build up from hard water in sinks, bowls, and on tile surfaces in showers - these products are usually high acid based fluids which chemically 'etch' the salts away. Both of these types of products are typically harmful to the user and carry 'skeleton hand' and other warnings on the labels. Cleaning is the removal of all other contaminants from the surface. One of the best ways to remove contaminants from all surfaces is with microbial action. According to Dr. Victor H Morgenroth, who is a semi-retired adjunct professor at UM; the " dirt " on roofs could actually be causing illness. Here is an excerpt from an article that was written by Dr. Morgenroth.

Having your roof cleaned actually makes sense.

It isn't just aesthetics. While people like to say that dirty roofs lower a property's value and may make it hard to sell, the "dirt" on a roof actually shortens its life span and can even present a health hazard. Furthermore, the "dark stains" on a roof act as a sponge to absorb the sun's heat, which causes a rise in the temperature inside a home or building, creating higher air conditioning bills.

The dirt isn't just dust – It's alive. Some of the black or very dark roof stains are caused by a resilient type of algae, Gloeocapsa magma (a type of blue-green algae commonly found in climates with warm, humid summers). The algae grow in standing water, as well as in our lakes and ponds. The algae spores are carried to our roofs from the water sources by the wind and birds, and then from roof to roof where it grows and feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles and the real dirt on tile roofs maybe in some cases the tiles themselves. Worse still, as the algae grow, they retain water and foster the growth of other roof inhabitants.

The black stains are also very likely to harbor a number of molds or fungi. Unlike algae the fungi on our roofs lacks chlorophyll. They are unable to manufacture food from raw materials. So, it must get nutrition from some form of organic matter. To thrive, these heterotrophs, who used to be called saprophytes, also require a warm, humid environment.

Fungi normally begin their life cycle as an airborne spore that settles on roofs, especially the asphalt-shingle ones. The spores on the northern exposure of the roof stand a better chance of survival because that portion of the roof is the last part to dry after a rain or morning dew. This raises the humidity on the surface of the shingle, thus creating a perfect feeding and breeding ground.

The tar used in roofing is fossilized, dead organic matter -- and an important food source for fungi. Asphalt, at the granule base, is normally consumed first. Once these granules dislodge, accelerated deterioration will occur. Ceramic granules represent the outer hard shell that protects against hail and other falling debris. Ceramic granules protect against damaging UV radiation and insulate the roof against extreme heat. So you can understand that their dislodgement by the growing fungal colonies can be detrimental to our roofs' longevity. Surprisingly, the blue-green algae are also food for the fungi.

While not all mold (fungi) and algae pose a health danger, some are harmful, especially for us older folks, younger children and people who suffer from asthma and respiratory problems. Their spores, which are on your roof, can get inside your home because they end up on the driveway and walkways from rain, and are easily tracked inside. They can even be drawn into our air conditioning systems and eventually populate our ducts.

Different mold species can have varying health effects, but it is important to remember that any excessive mold growth needs to be taken care of, regardless of the species. Any excessive mold growth can lead to increased allergies, toxicity, and house/building structural problems.

Super Fresh™ Removes ODORS Caused by Top Load Washing Machines

If you own a high efficiency front load washing machine then you have probably been very pleased with the fact that these washing machines clean your clothing better with less water, come out of the washing machine dryer due to a high speed final spin cycle, which allows for less drying time, as well as many other energy saving features.

One thing you may not be happy about is the fact that these washing machines can and will cause your laundry area as well as your clothes to have a mold or mildew type smell.

This odor is caused by the gasket that is located immediately inside the front door. As you will see in the pictures, the inner lining of the gasket is manufactured in such a way that water can collect at the bottom of the gasket causing the water to sit between loads. Couple that with the fact that the area inside the gasket get’s no light, is damp, and cool, and you have a perfect breeding ground for mold spores to form and grow.

Manufactures of these washers suggest that you always leave the door slightly ajar to allow air in. The manufactures also sell small tablets that you are to use every two to three weeks to help clean the inside of the gasket. While doing these two things may help, they do not totally remove the mold or the odor.

Here is how to get rid of the odor: The inside of the gasket must be thoroughly cleaned using our EATOILS™ Super Fresh™ Certified Green Cleaning Solution. Mix at 4 ounces to a gallon of water and clean the inside of the gasket using a small soft bristled brush and a rag. First spray liberally inside the gasket with the diluted Super Fresh™ solution, then lightly scrub with the soft bristled brush, let sit about 10-15 minutes and then wipe with a damp rag. You will be amazed at the amount of Mold and Mildew that you will remove. After thoroughly cleaning, spray some more of the Super Fresh™ inside the whole circumference of the gasket and let air dry. At this point the Mold and Mildew will be killed and removed from the gasket along with the odor.

Once you are done cleaning the gasket, you can spray any clothing or towels that may have absorbed the odor. Using your spray bottle, mist the clothing or towel items just until lightly damp and this will remove any residual odor. Remember the Super Carpet Fresh is Certified Green and will not harm you or your clothing. After treating the clothing or towels you may choose to launder again but this is not necessary.

Two weeks ago I received a phone call from a very good friend and client of Clean and Green Solutions, Julia Beckman. Julia had just lifted up her son’s (EJ) booster chair in the back seat of her mini van and discovered a month old chocolate milk stain. She called me and wanted to know if the Super Carpet Fresh™ would remove the stain. Cleaning Grout Lines with EATOILS GREEN Cleaning Products

Cleaning grout lines can be a very difficult task, particularly when you consider all the material that is usually collected in grout 'valleys'. As Grout is typically a porous material like cement all sorts of oils, greases, and particles can get trapped in the grout and discolor it easily. Traditional floor & tile cleaners do a pretty good job on the floor surfaces but they have virtually no effect on the discolored grout and over time the grout lines fill with these materials and can become unsightly. Harsh chemicals and a lot of elbow grease have been the only answer for cleaning grout and the results have been inconsistent. Short of getting down on your knees and manually scrubbing the grout, usually with nasty chemicals, there has not been a real alternative for cleaning grout until now.

CLEANING MEXICAN BRICK WITH EATOILS™ BT200™

If you have ever had to clean a home that has Mexican Brick as its exterior siding, you know it can be very challenging to clean in a safe and efficient manner. Mexican Brick is very soft and brittle, not to mention very porous. When cleaning this type of brick one must be very careful and not apply to much pressure. If to much pressure is applied, the brick can literally break in half. To get Mexican Brick completely clean you must use a solution that can get into the pores of the brick to KILL and REMOVE the mold and mildew completely, so as to prevent immediate future growth. Most chemicals that contain toxins or dangerous additives only clean the surface mold and mildew. This leaves tiny spores behind in the pores of the brick that will just begin growing again immediately.

Clean and Green Solutions was called out to this home recently to clean all the mold and mildew from the brick. The homeowner had received letters from the homeowners association and needed to get the home cleaned in order to be in compliant with the association guidelines.

Here is how we did it: Using the EATOILS™ BT200™ Certified GREEN degreaser we mixed the product at 5 ounces of EATOILS™ BT200™ to one gallon of water. Using an X-JET applicator, we applied the diluted EATOILS™ BT200™ to the entire surface of all walls and allowed it to sit for 10 minutes. We then repeated the application and allowed to it to sit for 20 minutes. We used a total of five gallons of diluted solutions, which required 25 ounces of EATOIILS™ BT200™. An X-JET applicator is a nozzle for a Pressure Washer that allows the product to be applied directly to the surface with out being diluted any further. Even though the EATOILS™ BT200™ is a degreaser, it is an excellent product for killing and removing mold and mildew on contact.

After allowing the EATOILS™ BT200™ to dwell for the times stated, we then used our pressure washer (3500PSI/6 GPM) to remove the mold and mildew stains. However, we used the chemical tip. The chemical tip is normally used to apply solution or chemicals at a very low pressure. This tip actually spray’s the water onto the surface with less pressure than a garden hose sprayer that is set on “jet” or “full stream”. Using this tip meant that absolutely NO high pressure was used.

As you can see in the pictures above, the brick cleaned up perfectly with no damage to the brick whatsoever. Once all areas were cleaned we then re-applied the EATOILS™ BT200™ and left it to dry with NO RINSING. This will provide continuing ongoing cleaning and help to keep the brick cleaner for a longer period of time.

EATOILS™ SUPERFRESH™ Removes Even The Worst Black Mold Found In Florida

Enclosed areas where moisture can build up can be a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Particularly in locations where wood and wallboard are exposed, like: 1) under rafters, 2) in damp basement areas, 3) in bathrooms, 4) below open buildings and 5) in attics.

Mold & Mildew can be harmful to you and your family as the spores can cause allergic reactions and illness. There are two problems that you need to deal with when you are trying to address mold and mildew: 1) removing the infestation effectively (mold and spores), and 2) preventing it from recurring.

REMOVAL: - In the past, most mold removal companies literally had to remove the offensive building materials, address the source of the moisture and rebuild the structure - a very expensive proposition. PREVENTION: - Once you remove the source of the moisture you have effectively prevented the mold from recurring however, particularly in areas where there is no resolution to the moisture issue (enclosed bathrooms) the mold will return the next time it is moist. Microbial cleaning products are particularly effective in these instances as they can protect the area from some of the recurrence and regular, weekly cleaning with the product can actually prevent it completely.

Many mold abatement contractors have discovered the advantages of using microbial cleaning products to treat these mold problems effectively. EATOILS Bio-Blast loosens cob webs for easy removal

Clean and Green Solutions, the Houston,TX distributor for EATOILS Certified GREEN Cleaning products was recent called out to this home in Kingwood, TX. The owner of the property had just listed the home for sale and needed an environmentally safe way to remove the cob web infestation as you see in the pictures. Most exterior cleaning service companies will use bleach diluted with water to remove cob webs. The problem with using bleach to remove cob webs is that you have to use way more bleach than water. Usually about 75% bleach to water. Then, when you apply the bleach and water mixture to the exterior of the home the mixture will fall onto all the vegetation below the house. Even if you were to cover the landscape, you will still get bleach in the vegetation as it runs off the tarps or covering as well as when you remove the covering. This is a very unsafe way to remove cob webs, not only for the user but for the environment as well.

Here is how Clean and Green Solutions removed the cob webs in an environmentally safe way: We filled a five gallon bucket with water till it was 75% full, and then added 1/2 gallon of EATOILS BIO-BLAST. Using a power washer, (3500 psi, 6gpm) equipped with a DOWNSTREAM chemical injector placed at the first 50 feet of hose, we thoroughly applied the BIO-BLAST to the exterior of the home. Then using a zero degree tip and keeping the wand approximately 10 feet from the house, working top to bottom, the cob webs easily fell off the house. We have used EATOILS BIO-BLAST many times for cob web removal and have always found it to be the most economical and safest way to remove cob webs whether the infestation is heavy or light.

On one story homes the use of a pressure washer is not required. Simply mix the EATOILS BIO-BLAST in a garden type pump up sprayer at 6 ounces to a gallon of water. Spray on the cob webs, then remove with a garden hose or broom.

This week we heard back from Horizon - the company that owns the rig that was sitting on top of the well that is now leaking into the Gulf Of Mexico - they have advised us that we have moved up on the list of priority of products being assessed for response to the gulf oil spill.

Well, it's only been 5 weeks since we filled out the internet form that provided them with the information about our technology and no one has picked up a phone to call. We have 4 people on the ground in the gulf states but no one is getting close to speaking with anyone about how our products can save some serious money.

We have shown the products to emergency response contractors and to some political folks, and the Coast Guard has run a small test, but we can't seem to get anywhere near the BP Oil people to discuss this huge problem.

We have an absorbent - MULTIZORB™ SELECT™ OIL ONLY that will pick up the oil off the surface of the water before it gets to the shoreline. It also works in the marshes and on the shore to mitigate the effects of the spill. 5) wait for political pressure before trying alternative methods, usually kicks in at 4 weeks,
6) keep the people with new technologies at bay by setting up a complicated assessment process that will tie them up in red tape until it is too late to address the current problem, this is a new wrinkle with this spill - it started on day 3 - and we are now at day 45 and we just heard that our technology is moving up one level (to level 3 of 5),
7) keep applying dispersants until the Coast Guard or the Government tells them to stop (by then the dispersants will have killed or poisoned much of the natural aquatic life in the area), it took 35 days this time, yet they are still applying dispersants today as far as I know,
8) pay people to stand around and look at the disaster and don't provide them with the tools and products they need to address the problem, still happening today as they wait for the oil to come ashore,
9) file for bancruptcy before the real charges for cleaning up the mess are assessed,
10) let the government step in and make an even bigger mess of this problem.

The time has come for the oil industry to come together and jointly assess all of the new spill response technologies so that the right products can be used quickly to control environmental damage and to reduce the costs of these horrific disasters caused by oil. We have the technologies to deal with this now and we can be good stewards of our planet if we will only act responsibly.

Cleaning Ovens is Easier and Safer with BT200

This oven was cleaned for a customer using EATOILS BT200 Certified Green Degreaser. After many attempts to clean this oven using store bought products like "Easy Off" and others that contain dangerous toxins and chemicals, take a long time to clean as the product has to dwell, and then leave that terrible residual smell when you use the oven again, the EATOILS BT200 cleaned this oven in 15 minutes. It even performed better than using the self cleaning option as the oven did not have to heat up to almost 700 degrees to bake the caked on burnt food, wasting valuable electricity, not to mention the 6-8 hours it takes to perform the self cleaning cycle and the heat it generates in the house.

Here is how we did it. We mixed the EATOILS BT200 at 6 ounces to a gallon of water and then thoroughly sprayed the inside of the oven and the oven racks. We then let it sit for 15 minutes and wiped the inside of the oven with PAPER TOWELS. There were two spots that the oven had some really baked on grease, to the point that it was crusty, and we simply sprayed a soft scour pad sponge with the BT200, lightly scrubbed the spots, and the stains came up easily.

Cleaning a Trex Deck with BT200

Cleaning Up Auto Rustproofing Residue From Asphalt - The EATOILS Way!

This is what can happen when someone gets their car undercoated or rustproofed and the car sits for awhile in front of your home. This happened to me a short while ago and it certainly didn't look too appealing to walk down the street and see this mess at my front door - I'm certainly glad that my 'friend' didn't park in my driveway and do this to me on my property! I knew that EATOILS™ BT200™ would clean up the oily mess if it was on concrete, but I wasn't sure that it would work as well on asphalt. I knew that it would degrade hydrocarbon oils with its 'non-stop cleaning action' - a natural microbial action that deep cleans the worst stains on concrete, asphalt, and even soil - but I wasn't sure how well it would do on rustproofing fluid. I also knew that if I left it untreated the marks would be there as an embarassment for me for years to come. I was very concerned about the look of the area, so I took some of our EATOILS™ BT200™ and sprayed it (in a 5:1 mixture) on the asphalt to see if it would clean up for me. Once the area was wet with water and the product, I brushed it in with a street broom and let it dry. After the first application the stain was lighter, but the marks were all still there. Over the next few days I monitored the product's progress and I watched how the marks continued to fade. After about 10 days, I noticed that the stains had faded about 30% so I re-applied the product at 5:1 and brushed it in again. After another week it had faded approximately 70% so I re-applied it on day 20, brushed it in and waited for it to fade the rest of the way. By the end of the month it was virtually completely gone (see the second picture for the way it looked).

After seeing this work on rustproofing fluid we have introduced the product to professional rustproofing clients and they are now using the product in their operations for spill control and clean-up. EATOILS SUPERSEP Eliminates Sugar Snake in Soda Fountains

What is a sugar snake? A sugar snake is a phenomenon that can occur in a soda fountain drain in a busy restaurant or bar. When drinks are poured in a soda fountain there is always a small amount of overflow that goes down the drain. As the drain is constantly receiving a dripping flow of sugary soda drink residue, there is a constant food source for bacteria living in the drain - the sugar. Colonies of sugar eating bacteria gather to digest the sugar and eventually they form a solid cane or 'snake' appearance inside the drainline (something like a colony of coral would do in a coral reef, only they have nowhere to grow but within the confines of the drainline). This is called a sugar snake. It is not made of sugar, but it looks like sugar - so it was always thought to be a column of sugar, hence, the name - sugar snake. Over time, the sugar snake grows large enough to hinder the flow of waste to the sanitary drain and it can disrupt the function of the fountain drain system. When this happens the sugar snake needs to be removed - usually with a pair of needle nose pliers. Typical drain openers don't work on this type of problem.

How To Use EATOILS Products With Steam And Vapor Cleaning Systems

There has been a lot of discussion recently about using steam to deep clean grout, tile, and other porous surfaces. Steam is a highly effective surface cleaner for removing visible grease, however, it doesn't draw out all of the material from deep pores as it's followers and supporters claim - and it can leave a residual grease trail, particularly in high traffic areas. Lingering odors can also be a problem.

EATOILS™ deep cleaning products actually do remove the organic materials from deep in the pores of all surfaces - and they do a particularly great job at removing deep particles from porous surfaces. They also remove the sources of odors!

By combining the power of microbial cleaning with 'steam cleaning' or 'vapor cleaning' the results are much more effective. Typically, they mix up our cleaner (depending on the job - SUPERFRESH™ for bathrooms, SUPER FLOOR DEGREASER™ for kitchens, or BT200™ for industrial greases ) with hot water (usually at 4 oz/gal) and apply it liberally to the surfaces to be cleaned (usually leave 1/4" of fluid on the floor) and allow it to sit for 30 - 45 minutes or so. Then, they brush the surfaces with a stiff brush to release the heavy greases and build-up. Then they follow up with the steam or vapor cleaning system. It actually takes much less time to clean this way and the results are dramatic! A bright clean room with no residue and no lingering odors!

ARE YOU REALLY CLEANING?

Recent reports have shown that 'spray & squeegee type' cleaning or 'spray & wipe' cleaning practices like microfibre systems are better at controlling residue that could typically be left behind by 'mop' and 'sponge mop type' cleaning systems. The main reasons cited in these reports are related to the contaminant resdue levels that sponge mop and string mop systems inherently have due to the material in the mop and sponge systems. This material is singled out primarily due to the way that the cleaning system is used - both mop styles assume that the user is continually re-dipping the dirty mop/sponge back into the bucket and re-contamniating the mop/sponge with the dirty water and re-applying it to the surface to be cleaned. In addition, the typically harsh chemicals used in these methods actually attack the mopheads and spongeheads and break them down - If you want to understand just how bad these products are for the mopheads take a moment and smell your mophead at the end of the cleaning shift when traditional cleaning products are used - you'll smell the mold on the mophead! We have found that when traditional cleaning products are used in a typical janitorial application a mophead lasts only one week.

In most of our EATOILS™ literature we have pointed out how well our products work at cleaning the mophead/spongehead every time it is inserted into the bucket because our cleaning technology is much more efficient than traditional cleaners that rely on chemical action ONLY to clean. Traditional cleaning products use harsh chemicals and/or solvents to break down dirt and residue - this process deteriorates as the cleaning solution gets dirtier and eventually, the fluid in the bucket needs to be changed. Our EATOILS™ products actually don't deteriorate as the solution gets dirtier, so the cleaning action is not adversely affected as the bucket is used. In fact, we have proven time and again that the surface is effectively cleaned much more thoroughly with our EATOILS™ products than with any other method using the mop/sponge type cleaning method. In addition, we have proven that mopheads last 6-10 times longer when used with our products because our products don't attack the mopheads (they smell nice and clean at the end of the cleaning shift). Kitchen grease - what a nasty job to clean it - especially on the kitchen exhaust hood in a busy restaurant! Many restaurants leave this dirty job to the professionals and call them in on a regular schedule to remove the heavy build-up of greases in the hoods, primarily for fire prevention. Most hood cleaning professionals use a dangerous caustic cleaning solution like sodium hydroxide to attack grease on the hood. These caustic solutions require the use of gloves, respirators, and other safety equipment and they can be dangerous to your employees' health, eyes, skin, clothing, etc. As a result, most hood cleaning is done late at night when the restaurant staff is off premises.

Now, with the introduction of safe, environmentally friendly microbial cleaning products like EATOILS™ SUPER DEGREASER™ you can do these nasty jobs with a much safer product and save on outside cleaning costs. As with any cleaning job, daily maintenance can make the job go much faster. A nightly regimen of cleaning the hood and filters with SUPER DEGREASER™ at the end of the cooking shift can keep a busy kitchen clean and safe from potentially dangerous hood fires.

Some clients find that a pre-shift (morning) spray of the product in a 10% solution on the upper surfaces of the hood and filters can make the nightly cleaning go much faster. Dangerous solvents and harsh chemicals have been used for years to remove residual cutting oils from manufactured parts in factories around the world.

With the introduction of green cleaning technologies and an increased awareness of environmental stewardship there has been an increasing pressure to come up with a 'green' alternative to these harsh chemicals.

At WorldWare Enterprises Ltd., we have been working on this for a number of years and we now have many clients who swear by our approach to removing oils from manufactured parts.

The natural surfactant in our product draws the oils away from the parts and into the solution just like dishwashing soap removes the oily foods from your dishes in your kitchen sink. Add a little agitation and the process is speeded up nicely. Warm water and aeration in the reservoir allow the microbes to be in an ideal environment for digesting the oils out of the solution.
